Turning Points in Mathematics

May 30 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

$10.00 – $20.00

Celebrate math for our country’s 250th?

Find out why in this spirited, enlightening look at how we went from the practical math of the Sumerians to the Greeks and the Euclidean Geometry we study today  — and how that was foundational to our Declaration of Independence!

Mathematician Jack Sanders ties culture and mathematics together to explain the first major turning point in mathematics, from the Sumerians’ practical math to the deductive math of the ancient Greeks creating Euclidean geometry and number theory we still study today — as did Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.

As a professor of mathematics, Jack Sanders, PhD, taught classes in the history of mathematics. He retired as an IBM system architect.
