SUMMARY:After the Fall: The Conservation of Tullio Lombardo's
DESCRIPTION:A presentation by George Wheeler Ph.D.\,  the director of conservation\, Columbia University; research scholar\, Metropolitan Museum of Art \nLess than an hour after the Metropolitan Museum of Art closed on the Sunday evening of October 6\, 2002\, the wooden base supporting Tullio Lombardo’s marble sculpture of Adam collasped – shattering the sculpture and sending 28 large fragments and hundreds of smaller ones across the gallery floor. After mapping and collecting the fragments\, a long journey of research and discovery ensued that resulted in a new body of knowledge for the conservation of marble sculpture and a tour-de-force reconstruction of Lombardo’s 1495 figure. \nThe presentation will show how the team of scientists\, conservators\, and curators developed that knew knowledge and put it into practice.

SUMMARY:Gallery of Artists Carol Kiendl
DESCRIPTION:In the Gallery: Carol Kiendl–Line\, Shape\, Color\n\nOpening Reception : 9th Jul 2016 02:00 PM\nDate of Show : 9th Jul 2016 – 31st Jul 2016 \n\n\nThe opening reception is July 9 from 2-4. \nArtist Statement \nA number of years ago I became tired of deciding “what am I going to paint today?” I decided the most engaging part of making art is the tactile experience of using art materials to create work that meets the formal considerations of painting such as line\, shape\, composition\, color usage\, depth of field and eye movement.  I also decided to explore one element of painting – the brush stroke\, to see how much could I get one brush stroke to say. \nI have now moved on to the drawn line as a beginning point.  Lines that are drawn with a black pastel pencil whose inherent properties allows for greater variation.  These lines are doodles that come from precocious thoughts.  I keep listening to them and following where they lead me.  I work to not let conscious idealization enter\, while keeping all my formal knowledge of art-making prominent.  This mimics an established art therapy approach call “Scribble Technique” where clients close their eyes and just draw on a piece of paper.  Then you have them see imagery in the scribble they produce.  This taps into precociousness\, as do my beginning drawn lines. When my paintings are complete the viewer projects their own precociousness onto the painting\, allowing for many interpretations.\n\nI use many different materials that are all water soluble and just make them work together.  I work on paper made by Arch that is designed for use with oil paints\, that has been adhered to a stretched canvas.  I work in a tight series that are all 3 feet by 4 feet and have a vertical orientation.  This keeps my focus on what the materials are telling me.  I hope you enjoy the experience of looking at my work.

DESCRIPTION:Local historian Ronald Bernard\, and consultant to the Sandisfield Historical Commission\, Bonnie Parsons\, will review with interested homeowners and others the results of the recently completed official survey of the town’s architecturally and historically significant assets. Some one hundred surviving antique houses and buildings were surveyed and submitted to the Massachusetts Historical Commission. SUMMARY:Nick Hawvermale Photos that bring the wild into a closer view
DESCRIPTION:Opening Reception : 30th Apr 2016 02:00 PM\nDate of Show : 30th Apr 2016 – 30th Nov -0001 \nArtist Statement \nBorn and raised in rural Connecticut I was always out in the woods and in nature. I always appreciated the natural world\, but never had a way to express my love for nature and the things we pass by on any given day until after graduating from college and getting my first camera. Once I had a camera I was able to capture the little things that most people don’t always see while walking down the street or walking through a garden. I began to find that the natural world I always appreciated had a lot more to offer than I had thought. The camera opened my eyes to more than I had seen before. \nWith my Nikon D7200 camera body and a variety of lenses including a Nikon 105mm f/2.8 for macro and a Sigma 50-500mm f/5-6.3 for birds I’ve become the hunter hunting for beautiful photos.

SUMMARY:Simon Winchester on his new book
DESCRIPTION:Simon will describe the writing of his new\, celebrated book\, Pacific. \n“We live a very long way from the shores of the Pacific Ocean – a sea so immeasurably vast it could swallow all the continents and have room to spare.  But our distance from it should not cloud our realization that this is the ocean around which all our futures will now play out – for it is where mankind’s relentless westward spread across the globe has come full circle\, and that across the Date Line is where west and east finally\, truly meet. The modern Pacific offers a tableau of awesome variety – atom bombs and coral reefs\, surfboards and submarines\, Apple and Sony\, ukuleles and didgeridoos\, North Korea and Chile\, Polynesians and Ainu\, icebergs and cyclones and blue-washed strands of limitless leaning palm trees. But its sheer beauty is deceiving. For this is also where the world’s two great superpowers will now face each other down\, where America and China will test their mutual ambitions to lead tomorrow’s world into its Pacific future\, a reality which will all of a sudden make this faraway ocean seem very near\, a body of water with which all of us should become familiar and fully aware.”

SUMMARY:Forever Young - Cabaret with Linda Mironti
DESCRIPTION:In song and stories Linda Mironti explores the notion that age has nothing to do with staying young. . . or does it? \nCome to hear her and see what you think!  Linda’s first voice teacher was her Grandmother Angelina who taught her Italian folk songs while showing her how to make gnocchi and pasta.  Ironically\, for the 7 years she performed in Italy\, she sang mostly jazz\, rhythm and blues\, and original pop material\, as she wrote lyrics for herself and many other artists. \nIt wasn’t until her return to New York City in the mid-90s that she was able to include her favorite Italian songs in her performances.  Linda has been organizing creative workshops in the arts in Italy for the past 20 years and singing anywhere she happens to be\, including here in her new home in Sandisfield. \nReserve your seat now—-you’re not getting any younger! \n  \n\n\nTickets for events at the Sandisfield Arts Center are available online or may be purchased at the door on the night of the performance on a first come-first served basis. ONLINE TICKETS ARE RECOMMENDED TO INSURE A SEAT. \nChildren 12 and under are admitted FREE\, unless otherwise noted\, when space allows.
