SUMMARY:A Story of Fascism presented by Val Coleman
DESCRIPTION:Fascism—“an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government” Is it the uber-drama of Nazi Germany or is it an ancient sickness that infected all of history? We’ll take a look and heed the advice of Hannah Arendt and other very smart people. We might even search for symptoms in modern America. Val Coleman\, the poet laureate of Sandisfield talked about the history of poetry last year and will try his best to talk about the history of fascism this year

SUMMARY:Evening of Song with Music by Cole Porter to Benefit the Sandisfield Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:This special evening includes an intermission with prosecco and a resplendent dessert table. The beautiful voices of Kathy Lawrence\, Linda Mironti\, Brian De Lorenzo and accompanist Michael Rheault will bring these songs to the stage at the Arts Center. \nLinda Mironti\, soprano  \nLinda Mironti’s public singing career began in high school when she sang the national anthem every Friday night at the high school football games.  After 2 years majoring in music at Onondaga Community College she set off to Manhattan to try her hand at Broadway and the music scene. \nAfter moving to NYC she sharpened and honed her talents by doing the “New York singer/actor/waitress life she took classes at AMDA (American Music and Drama Academy)\, private singing and acting classes along with going on many auditions. \nIn the late 80’s Linda was invited to go to Italy for a month to sing\, and she stayed for 10 years.  She sang on Italian Television (RAI) as an American Female vocalist singing Italian songs in English for 2 seasons and other TV appearances. \nShe recorded 2 albums that are still sold throughout Europe and toured with Edwardo DeCrescenzo\, Nana Vasconselos and Donatella Retore and others as well as her own tours in cities and venues from Milan to Sicily where she performed mostly Blues\, Jazz and Rhythm & Blues and original pop material she wrote for herself and other artists. \nShe recorded and co-wrote the soundtrack for an Italian major motion picture “18 in a Week” \nLinda also worked dubbing Warner Bros. cartoons for Italian TV and gave voice lessons to expats living in Rome. \nIn 1991 Linda returned to the US\, and worked as female vocalist for Phil Philips Entertainment as well as party bands and worked with percussionist Robin Lobe in many Latin club appearances as well as in Cabaret venues in NYC. \nLinda has been performing her one woman shows all across the US including NY\, PA\, NJ FL and MA to much acclaim\, “she has found a sweet mix of story and song that includes a disarming candor which\, when married to an old-fashioned glamorous voice\, makes for a wonderful cabaret experience.”—Val Coleman\, Sandisfield Times. \nBrian De Lorenzo\, tenor \nBrian De Lorenzo\,singer\, professional actor\, recording artist\, and Talent America’s 2001 “Performer of the Year” has performed at clubs in New York\, Boston\, Chicago\, San Francisco\, and Provincetown\, and on cruise ships in Alaska and the Mediterranean. Brian is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association (AEA)\, SAG-AFTRA\, and StageSource. \nKathy Lawrence\, mezzo soprano \nKathy Lawrence started musical training at her mother’s side and quickly gravitated to popular music of the 1930s and 40s. At an early age she accompanied fellow singers on the piano\, and indulged in her special love for jazz standards\, show tunes and torch songs. Kathy’s voice is adaptable to a variety of musical genres\, including jazz standards\, show tunes\, folk and classical music. She is best known to local food enthusiasts as the founder of Just Food in NYC (www.justfood.org)\, to farm policy wonks as the former Executive Director of the National Campaign for Sustainable Agriculture and to child nutrition advocates as the co-founder of School Food Focus (www.schoolfoodfocus.org). \nMichael Rheault-pianist  \nMichael Rheault works locally and in New York City as a pianist and composer. SUMMARY:Gallery of Artists Setsuko Winchester
DESCRIPTION:In the Gallery: SEPT 2 – 25\, Setsuko Winchester\n\nOpening Reception : 2nd Sep 2017 02:00 PM\nDate of Show : 2nd Sep 2017 – 25th Sep 2017 \n\n\nLecture by the artist at 3 PM \nPhotos from the Freedom from Fear/Yellow Bowl Project will be part of the Photography Exhibition for the 75th Anniversary of FDR’s signing of Executive Order 9066 at the FDR Library and Museum in Hyde Park\, NY (Feb. 19 – Dec. 31\, 2017). In 2015 those interests of art and journalism converged in a work called the Freedom From Fear/Yellow Bowl Project as a means of telling a story through clay. The story is first and foremost a personal journey of discovery\, second\, a journey into American history and third\, a physical odyssey that included two epic trips covering over 16\,000 miles across the US to some of the most remote parts of the country where 120\,000 people of Japanese ancestry were once imprisoned during World War II.

DESCRIPTION:In the Gallery: July 1 – 29\, Tina Castiblanco\n\nOpening Reception : 1st Jul 2017 02:00 PM\nDate of Show : 1st Jul 2017 – 29th Jul 2017 \n\n\nARTIST’S STATEMENT \n“My experiences visiting and living in different countries have contributed to how my observations and memory of the local landscapes\, architecture and cultural encounters have entered into my artwork. I feel a constant\, yet non-conflicting dichotomy within myself\, and my art of the universal and the local. In this dichotomy I see the cultural\, iconographic\, geographic commonalities in the world; while still understanding the intrinsic uniqueness that exists within a place that enables a distinct ethnic and aesthetic experience.

SUMMARY:Over There—the Great War to End All Wars A Hundred Years Ago 1917-1918
DESCRIPTION:Bill Cohn\, Trinity College Visiting Professor of History and American Studies\, continues his analysis of the impact of the “war to end all wars” through the letters of his father from the battlefield\, and his mother’s journals on the home front. Bill’s father to be\, a buck private in the 308th Ohio Combat Engineers in World War I\, participated in the three major U.S. offensives in 1918 as a loyal American patriot who was committed to the successful outcome of the war and the cause for which he was fighting. He recorded all of his movements during his time in France and Germany in his diary and his hopes about the war’s outcome and what he went through in his many letters to his sweetheart\, Bill’s mother to be at home in Ohio. Excerpts from those many letters will convey to you something of the nature of that war as his father reported it. Bill’s mother’s anxious and worried thoughts about her sweetheart and the war over there are recorded daily in her own diary about the war over here.

SUMMARY:UNDER MILK WOOD By Dylan Thomas\, performed by the Sandisfield Players
DESCRIPTION:Three years ago the Players performed Dylan Thomas’ great 20th century play “Under Milk Wood” and we feel it’s time once again to venture into the small Welsh fishing village of Llareggub and join its cast of eccentric inhabitants for an evening of humor—often quite surreal— and astonishing poetry. The play begins at night and our narrators guide us through the dream worlds of village inhabitants. Then on through the waking spring day of their often extraordinary antics until dusk\, and night once more descends. It is a wonderful play of dazzling poetic language\, love for his 60 or so characters and full of wit and fun. \nUnder Milk Wood also performed by the Sandisfield Players on May 20 at 7:00 PM at the Unicorn Theater in Stockbridge\, and on May 21 at 4:00 PM at the Norfolk Library. For information about these performances\, please contact these venues directly. SUMMARY:Gallery of Artists Sybil Perry
DESCRIPTION:In the Gallery: June 3 – 30\, Sybil Perry\n\nOpening Reception : 3rd Jun 2017 02:00 PM\nDate of Show : 3rd Jun 2017 – 30th Jun 2017 \n\n\nARTIST’S STATEMENT \n“I am inspired by landscapes that make me catch my breath. My paintings are not just a product of what I see. They are what I see transformed by my imagination and memories. They may at times have a story hidden in them. Sometimes I recognize the story as I am working on the piece. It is the beauty and sacredness of the earth captured on an emotional level. Water\, mist and mountains continually intrigue me—the mountains of the Berkshires\, the Hudson Valley\, Lake George and Kyoto.” “Color is what drives me and delights me. My process is meditative. Experimenting with layers of many colors enables me to explore\, to play\, and to experience wonder. These pastel paintings\, inspired by images gathered out-of-doors\, are completed in my studio. It most pleases me to create intuitively something I had not quite expected. I find the process to be a spiritual journey\, a mystery. At the heart of it all is discovery.”

SUMMARY:“Crazy World” Linda Mironti in a Cabaret Performance
DESCRIPTION:We live in a crazy world and in an election year\, things seem crazier than ever\, politics for sure\, and sometimes even love and relationships.  Since we can’t leave this crazy world\, let Linda entertain you with stories and song. “A middle-age belter with a sassy smile and one of those penetrating and lyric voices that reach out and snuggle an audience\, the lady owned us with twelve songs bumped with the story of her life.” Val Coleman\, Sandisfield Times \nLinda’s first voice teacher was her Grandmother Angelina\, who taught her Italian folk songs while showing her how to make homemade gnocchi and pasta. Ironically\, for the 7 years she performed in Italy she sang mostly blues\, jazz\, rhythm and blues\, and original pop material; she wrote lyrics for herself and for many other artists. \nIt wasn’t until her return to New York City in the mid 90’s that she was able to include her favorite Italian songs in her performances.   Linda has been organizing creative workshops in the arts in Italy for the past 20 years\, and singing anywhere she happens to be\, including here in her new home in Sandisfield. \nTickets for events at the Sandisfield Arts Center are available online or may be purchased at the door on the night of the performance on a first come-first served basis. ONLINE TICKETS ARE RECOMMENDED TO INSURE A SEAT. \nChildren 12 and under are admitted FREE\, unless otherwise noted\, when space allows.
