SUMMARY:Gallery of Artists Elizabeth Post
DESCRIPTION:July in the Gallery\nOpening Reception : 7th Jul 2018 02:00 PM\nDate of Show : 7th Jul 2018 – 29th Jul 2018 \nArtist’s Statement \nIf one believes that there is something innate in \nthe creation of an artist\, then I might say I was always an \nartist\, although not formally trained. \nThe use of wool as a natural fiber was accidental\, I had a blanket on my lap\, \njust waiting to be cut into pieces. The fiber and the purely unique characters of the dolls became a representation of an important part of my life. \nAs I continue to make the dolls from recycled sweaters\, I feel I am giving old \nsouls new life.

SUMMARY:Bobby Sweet
DESCRIPTION:Bobby has shared the bill with many top country and folk artists\, including Vince Gill\, Arlo Guthrie\, and Pete Seeger. Most recently he finished his fourth US tour playing guitar with Arlo Guthrie on Guthrie’s 50th Anniversary of Alice’s Restaurant tour.  Stylistically\, his music resembles elements of John Prine\, Jackson Browne\, Guy Clark\, and a countrified Bruce Springsteen. \nBobby’s 7th solo album\, “All These Changes” was released in 2017.

SUMMARY:One Night Stand a play by Larry Zingale
DESCRIPTION:One Night Stand (A Love Story) Is a modern day \ntrilogy that spans a tumultuous 50 years\, from the summer of Small \nTown USA circa 1918\, with America’s entry into World War One; it moves forward to New Year’s Eve 1942/1943 in Times Square and concludes\, very late on a sultry summer night in 1968 as two lonely strangers meet on a darkened New York City street and we see their lives change before the sun rises. \nThree poignant stories of how love remains the same\, even as the world continues to change. \nThe terrific cast includes Kristin Grippo\, Gray Simons and Frank \nGioia with music performed by singer and guitarist\, Doug Schmolze. \nLarry Zingale is an artist who also writes plays. \nHis play Kate & Bill won the 2016 Berkshire Playwright Festival and was given a reading at the Unicorn Theater in Stockbridge. One Night Stand (A Love Story) had two very successful readings this past fall\, at the Diana Felber Gallery and the Deb Koffman Studio. \nTickets for events at the Sandisfield Arts Center are available online or may be purchased at the door on the night of the performance on a first come-first served basis. ONLINE TICKETS ARE RECOMMENDED TO INSURE A SEAT. \nChildren 12 and under are admitted FREE\, unless otherwise noted\, when space allows.

SUMMARY:"Age and Beauty" a lecture/discussion with Sarah Jackson
DESCRIPTION:Why is it that an old house\, table\, or tree may appear beautiful to us\, while an old woman often does not? Age seems to augment beauty in many instances\, but not when it comes to the human form.  We humans create and appreciate various kinds of beauty\, we seem to enjoy and exploit youthful beauty—especially that of the young females of our species—to an extraordinary degree.  As a result\, this is a difficult culture in which to get old\, particularly—but not only—for women. \nIn this lecture/discussion\, Sarah will present some lively and accessible ideas and images that integrate aspects of aesthetics\, Jungian & Archetypal psychology\, Romantic poetry and Taoist philosophy which\, taken together\, suggest a different perspective on aging that applies to both men and women. \nSarah Jackson is a Jungian psychoanalyst\, visual artist and writer.  She has a private practice in Great Barrington\, and Hillsdale\, NY.  This presentation is part of her developing work on the different aspects of beauty.

SUMMARY:Jack and the Giant Beanstalk Written by Linda Daugherty in 1996 Performed by the Sandisfield Players and friends
DESCRIPTION:This play was written for the Dallas Children’s Theater Company\, one of America’s most prestigious children’s theater groups. In 1997-8 they toured the play to 45 major American cities. Our version is a lively mix of children and adults. The play has everything: a shipwreck\, the sad story of Jack’s lost father and the resulting family poverty\, Jack’s band of young friends; and the wily peddler who gets Jack to part with the family cow and remaining money for a bag of magic beans. BUT the beans really ARE magical\, and Jack climbs into the Giant’s world and meets the harassed\, constantly cooking\, normal-sized wife\, a crazy opera-singing lady harpist\, a gigantic neurotic golden-egglaying chicken and a mysterious prisoner in the Giant’s dungeon. \nThe Sandisfield Players are sponsored for the 2017 season by Brockman Real Estate\, Chapin Fish\, Broker – Owner \n\n\nTickets for events at the Sandisfield Arts Center are available online or may be purchased at the door on the night of the performance on a first come-first served basis. ONLINE TICKETS ARE RECOMMENDED TO INSURE A SEAT. \nChildren 12 and under are admitted FREE\, unless otherwise noted\, when space allows.

SUMMARY:Postponed to 2018 Remember the Alamo: A Presentation by George Wheeler\, Director of Conservation\, Columbia University; Research Scholar\, Metropolitan Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:This event has been postponed to 2018. Look for it next year when the schedule of events is posted. \nThe Alamo was conceived in the middle of the 18th century as a mission to convert Native Americans to Christianity\, much like several other contemporary missions along the San Antonio River. The structure took its prominent place in history on March 6\, 1836 when the several thousand strong Mexican army attacked the building complex and its inhabitants – killing all – including among others the famous frontiersman Davey Crockett. In the ensuing years much has changed at the Alamo and San Antonio\, and the emblematic building is now surrounded by hotels and such tourist attractions as the wellknown Riverwalk. However\, the building and its materials remain but in a fragile state. This presentation discusses the history of the Alamo and the nature of its construction and construction materials\, how those materials have altered over time\, how we understand them today\, and how to preserve them for the future.

DESCRIPTION:This special evening includes an intermission with prosecco and a resplendent dessert table.
